Welcome to the home page of the British Society for Ethical Theory (BSET).

We provide the following services:

We encourage the electronic interchange of information, drafts of papers, and reviews.
We provide information, via an e-mail list, about calls for papers and conferences in ethics in (or near) the British Isles in coming months.
We publish a list of members and their research interests.
We also run annual conferences.
- Our 2009 conference will be held at the University of Reading from July 13 to July 15, July 2009. The invited speakers are Jimmy Lenman (Sheffield) and Jeff MacMahan (Rutgers).
- Our 2008 conference will be held at the University of Edinburgh from July 14 to July 16, July 2008. The invited speakers are Barbara Herman (UCLA) and Wlodek Rabinowicz (Lund).
- Our 2007 conference was held at the University of Bristol from July 9 to July 11th. The invited speakers were Roger Crisp (Oxford) and David Velleman (NYU).
- Our 2006 conference was held at the University of Southampton from 10th-12th July 2006. This year's invited speakers were Joseph Raz (Oxford) and Mark Timmons (Arizona).
- Other recent invited speakers at our confernces include Simon Blackburn (Cambridge), David Copp (Florida), Stephen Darwall (Michigan), Allan Gibbard (Michigan), Brad Hooker (Reading), Susan Hurley (Warwick), John Skorupski (St. Andrew's), and Michael Slote (Miami).

Please note that we are called a British Society, not for chauvinist reasons, but simply because we want cheap and accessible conferences. We welcome foreign participation and membership. Those living overseas are offered free membership of our electronic mailing and discussion list. In fact, we would like this to evolve into an international society, with branches in other countries, as well as the UK. However, since most of the people who have currently expressed interest are in Great Britain, we began by forming a British Society.
